Start Strong Wichita

Start Strong Wichita is a project of Catholic Charities of Wichita and is the largest initiative EVER funded to promote building healthy relationships in 11-14 year olds. 1 in 3 students will be the victim (emotional, physical or sexual) of dating violence before the end of high school. Start Strong Wichita, its community partners, and teen leaders aim to prevent dating violence in our community before the cycle reaches the next generation.

The campaign is working with Wichita Public Schools and has implemented new curriculum geared at enhancing relationship-building skills. A legislative team and research team are evaluating current policies and identifying the best ways to reach teens and parents. Drama troupes and participants from teen organizations such as Choose Respect have used Art, both performance and painted, to share with the community their feelings on teens, dating, and relationships.
