Custom Cabinets:
Our custom cabinets are made to fit your specific area. Most stores sell standard cabinet sizes and fill in the gaps with strips. We make our cabinets to fit the designated opening. We use nothing but real wood and veneer core plywood on our cabinets, not particle board or MDF. The sides are of 3/4" plywood, not 1/2" or 3/8" particle board. We make our own drawers from birch or maple and box built or dovetail construction per customer's wish. We also offer doors to the customer's custom cabinet desire. Even with all of the above, we are very competitive with the big box stores. The reason for this is the company that builds the cabinets sells them to the retail stores who in turn adds their cost and profit to the product plus the shipping costs to get the product from the factory to the store. We build everything from scratch and deliver to the customer.
Fireplace Surrounds:
We build fireplace surrounds to enliven a bland old fireplace, or refurbish the one you have. We can also build a portable fireplace surround that will enclose an electric fireplace and can be moved from room to room in the house, or fit in a mobile home.
Custom Woodworking:
We have made toys such as rocking horses, puzzles, butcherblock counter tops, almost anything to do with wood. We can also change out trim in homes and remove and replace interior doors. Have any questions that have not been addressed? Please give us a call, we will help you in anyway we can.
Custom Furniture:
We make custom furniture such as end tables, coffee tables, entertainment centers, CD racks, sofa tables, dining tables, harvest tables, hutches, bookcases, mission style pieces. If it is made of wood, we can probably make it. We use only the finest hardwoods and hardwood veneer plywood to make these pieces. We DO NOT use particle board or medium density fiber (mdf) wood. We also finish the pieces to match the color the customer chooses.
Company History:
SB Woodworking, Inc. began the adventure in October 1991 when Larry's sister, who was out of work, came up with an idea of making and selling gazebo bird-feeders. He had some woodworking equipment and a garage, and she had the time. They designed a feeder, made a prototype, took it around town to stores and sold two that first day. Larry's wife and two sons soon got involved as did his sister's son. In no time, they were hooked up with two chain stores and demand started building. They moved out of his garage into a commercial building and expanded the line of bird-feeders. They were selling them nationwide and in Canada. By 2000, his sister, her son and his oldest son found different work that paid more and moved on. His youngest son and two employees now make up the bulk of the workforce. In 2000, they moved again to a larger facility and started selling retail and expanded the work scope. They started building cabinets, both new and refacing old cabinets. This evolved into vanities for bathrooms, entertainment centers, outdoor furniture, fireplace surrounds, repairing and refinishing furniture, trimming out homes, installing doors, anything that has to do with woodworking of the non-structure nature. In 2002, they also started selling and installing Wilson Art laminated flooring and selling hardwoods for other woodworkers and DIY projects. In 2009 Larry retired and sold the business to Stew who retained the employees and has kept the business practices of Larry, providing a quality product at a competitive price. In January 2010 SB Woodworking moved into a larger building to house the business. It is located at 501 E. Harry, on the Southeast corner of Emporia and Harry. Please come by and visit with us about your next project.
